Four. The number of children we were looking forward to having in our home in February. Painfully, though we are a family of 6, we will look like a family of 5 on this earth unless the Lord wills otherwise one day in the future. We named our son Noah James McIntyre. Noah means ‘rest’ or ‘peace’. James is the name of Daniel’s stepdad, who is also in Heaven. Some translate James to mean “one who follows”. We love the rich meaning. While my body was home to him for 12 weeks, Noah is now home resting and at peace with Jesus. We are at peace and resting in the same Jesus, though not yet face to face. We will come after Noah and follow Jesus for eternity – worshipping and living as we were created to. His life was just a moment but really, all of ours are. In light of eternity we’re all here for such a short time. We believe life starts at conception and every life is made in the image of the creator God. We believe God, in His great mercy, brings babies who die Home to live with him. Though our hearts are breaking that we won’t get to hold Noah in February, we know he is fully whole and worshiping God the Father in a perfect, sinless, and pain free Home. Thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we have a great hope that will not disappoint. When our life on earth is done, we’ll join Jesus and Noah in glory.

Though our hearts are breaking that we won’t get to hold Noah in February, we know he is fully whole and worshiping God the Father in a perfect, sinless, and pain free Home.

While we’ve been blessed with a home of noise and full bedrooms, that doesn’t make this baby we lost any less wanted. To those grieving over the loss of babies desired, you’re not alone. To those with quieter homes and bedrooms you long to see filled, you are seen. Out of the Ashes Foundation is very close to my heart, as I photographed the stillborn birth of the baby girl, Hannah, who inspired it. Their mission is to honor bereaved women and families, to provide hope through the Gospel of Christ and to give practical help in the way of financial coverage for associated medical expenses. I’ve now been on the receiving end of their support with a practical, thoughtful, and helpful care package that arrived shortly after Noah’s death. Though we grieve, we do not do so without hope. We love you Noah James and can’t wait to meet you.

Real life ways we support loss moms as an organization – and the associated cost:

  • Our organization is sending 20 of the 100 moms to the Bereaved Mother’s Day Tea this Sunday. (cost: $50 to send 1 mom)
  • We have sent 60 free care packs to new loss moms in the last year. (cost: $2,400, approx. $40/ea)
  • We sent 300+ cards to bereaved moms and infertility warriors this year. (cost: $450)
  • This past year, we gave out $25,000 to cover loss-associated medical bills for 18 moms and their families. In the fall, we plan to give $25,000 more.
  • We design spaces and connection events for moms to share and meet other moms. (cost: ~$25,000)
